Baseball & Softball Fields
At Iowa Athletic Field Construction Company we have spent a lot of resources to bring you not only the best infield mixes for color, compaction rates, and absorption but turfgrasses to eliminate or reduce many maintenance headaches. We found this necessary to not only bring you the best fields available but to gain Iowa Athletics seal of approval.
Properties of our diamond aggregate discussed below.
Color
Our product has a unique brownish to reddish color that is distinct from ordinary sands and gravel, crushed stone as well as most other limestone. The color contrasts with the white color of a ball better than light colored aggregates. The darker color also does not reflect light for a safer playing environment.
Compaction
The product consists of a variety of particle sizes with rough surfaces including a significant portion of fine materials. The larger amount of fines serve as a binder material and the void spaces are filled with the fine material allowing excellent compaction. The shape of the particles when crushed gives the aggregate the ability to prevent it from sliding over each other. This results in an infield that will resist deformation when applied high stress loads.
Absorption
The crystal structure of our product when crushed results in a particle whose characteristics allows more surface area available. More surface area available means more water that is able to be absorbed. Our aggregate of choice will retain its strength even when wet, unlike clays which become loose or greasy.
In conclusion, Iowa Athletic Field Construction Company’s product of choice results in a ball surface that is unique in color(safe environment), excellent compaction, and an excellent playing surface that readily absorbs water.
Turf Grass
We can provide you with premium seed blends for your athletic field. We offer recommendations or blend your own desired mixture. Our standard traits are a dark green color, tolerates lower mowing heights, excellent in traffic areas, good in drought, and establishes an excellent root base with a medium to high thatch.
All of our sod is grown under the strict guidelines and regulations of the Iowa Department of Agriculture's "Certified Turfgrass Program". Our sod is regularly inspected by professional agronomist for color, strength, contaminants, insects, diseases or any other environmental problem and amended as they recommend before it is considered for harvesting.
